About the Role
This is a client-facing business development role for a New York-admitted attorney who enjoys building relationships as much as practicing the art of persuasion. You will travel throughout New York State and across the country to meet prospective clients, strengthen referral networks, attend industry events, and represent the firm in the market.
Your success will be measured by the quality of the relationships you build, the qualified opportunities you generate, and your ability to convert those opportunities into meaningful new business. The role offers significant autonomy and is well suited to an attorney who wants to apply legal credibility in a commercially focused position.
Responsibilities
- Build and grow a strong pipeline of qualified prospective clients and referral opportunities for the firm
- Develop trusted relationships with clients, prospects, referral partners, and other influential contacts in the legal and business communities
- Represent the firm professionally in face-to-face meetings, networking events, conferences, and business development activities
- Convert qualified opportunities into new client engagements through thoughtful follow-up, relationship management, and persuasive communication
- Identify new markets, organizations, events, and partnerships that can generate sustainable business opportunities
- Maintain consistent contact with prospective and existing relationships to strengthen the firm's visibility and referral network
- Communicate the firm's services and value clearly to prospective clients while maintaining the professional standards expected of a licensed attorney
- Track business development activity, lead quality, pipeline progress, and conversion opportunities
- Collaborate with firm leadership and attorneys to align business development efforts with the firm's growth priorities
- Travel extensively throughout New York State and nationwide to pursue high-value relationship and business development opportunities
Requirements
Must-Have:
- Admission to practice law in New York and current good standing
- Professional experience within the legal industry
- Demonstrated business development, sales, client acquisition, or revenue-generating experience
- Strong relationship-building and client-facing communication skills
- Confidence representing a law firm in meetings, events, and professional networking environments
- Ability to develop qualified leads and move opportunities through the business development process
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively throughout New York State and nationwide
Nice to Have:
- Existing professional or referral network within the New York legal or business community
- Experience selling legal services or developing business for a law firm
- Experience managing a measurable sales or business development pipeline
